Let me start by saying that you are not perfect. Nor will you ever be perfect. I know this may sound harsh. But the first step to finding the true you begins here!!! If you look the word perfect up in the dictionary the first defintion states "conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type." There are three points I would like to show. The first is this "conforming". When we seek perfection we are conforming to a pattern that was not intended for us. The Bible says in Romans Chapter 12 Verse 2 "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." I agree that change and growth are good things. But there is a fine line between growth and conforming. The second point is the "absolutely". In seeking perfection you must conform absolutely. When we do this we lose ourselves!!!! There are things that God has placed in each one of our lives that makes us unique. The Bible also says in Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." These things are precious gifts and when we conform absolutely we lose these most cherished gifts. And the last part of the definition says "ideal type". Which brings to my third point. When seeking perfection your focusing on someone else's "ideal type". This may be family, friends, or co workers. You will never reach perfection here because someone else will always come along and demand something new from you. And the cycle of losing yourself will begin all over again. Before you know it you will have lost sight of that special gift that made you you in the first place. So what does the real you look like? Unfortunately if you are like me when you start to try to find the real you, you have to sort through a lot of the "perfections" that other people have helped us with. This is the tricky part because not everything that these people have taught us is bad. It is very important at this point to let God guide us to show us the things that were and were not intended for our growth. We have to get to the place where the face we see in the mirror is the one that God has chosen!!!!
~Turning this "Mess" into something Beautiful~
I am so not perfect by the world's standards (praise God!!) but everyday I strive to be perfect as He is perfect (Matthew 5:48). And through His grace I get closer and closer! I agree it is not okay to conform to this world but as long as the 'ideal type' is that of Jesus, I will 'conform absolutely'!!!! Great things to think about.=)
